About the Wilson Center Research Fellowship
The Wilson Center Research Fellowship is the flagship fellowship program of the Wilson Center, one of the world’s leading nonpartisan policy institutions. Fellowship Benefits

Fellowship Duration
The fellowship runs for 12 months, from:
- Start Date: June 2027
- Completion: May 2028

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply, provided they meet one of the following criteria:
Academic Applicants
You should:
- Hold a PhD (or equivalent terminal degree)
- Have published a book, monograph, or another substantial body of scholarly work beyond your doctoral dissertation
Policy Professionals and Practitioners
Applicants from government, nonprofit organizations, journalism, think tanks, or policy institutions should demonstrate:
- Approximately 10 years or more of significant professional experience
- A proven record of leadership, publications, research, or policy impact comparable to advanced academic standing
In addition, all applicants must:
- Be proficient in English
- Submit a nonpartisan, policy-focused research proposal
- Be able to complete the fellowship requirements during the award period
Institutional affiliation is not required to apply. Previous Wilson Center fellows may also apply, although prior participation may be considered during the selection process.
Required Application Documents
Applicants must prepare:
- Completed online application form
- Current CV (maximum three pages)
- Research proposal (maximum five pages)
- Statement explaining how they will contribute to the Wilson Center community (maximum 200 words)
- Disclosure of any conflicts of interest or other affiliations (maximum 200 words)
- Two letters of recommendation
All application materials must be submitted in English.

Applications are evaluated based on:
- Originality of the research proposal

- Applicant’s professional or academic achievements
- Ability to communicate research to policymakers
- Potential contribution to the Wilson Center community
Priority is given to projects that provide fresh perspectives on major international policy issues.
