Are you an emerging journalist, writer, researcher, or storyteller interested in peacebuilding, social justice, human rights, and nonviolent movements? The Waging Nonviolence Fellowship 2026 is now accepting applications for a paid five-month remote journalism fellowship designed to support early-career writers from around the world.

The fellowship offers financial support, editorial mentorship, and practical journalism experience while allowing fellows to work remotely from their home country.

About the Waging Nonviolence Fellowship

Waging Nonviolence is an independent media platform that publishes reporting and analysis on nonviolent social movements, democracy, peacebuilding, and grassroots activism. Through this fellowship, selected participants will contribute original journalism and receive guidance from experienced editors.

The 2026 fellowship aims to amplify underrepresented voices and support stories that explore constructive social change, nonviolent action, and community-led solutions.

Fellowship Highlights
  • Paid fellowship for five months
  • Fully remote participation from any country
  • Editorial mentoring from professional journalists and editors
  • Opportunity to publish work with Waging Nonviolence
  • Practical training in reporting, interviewing, research, and storytelling
  • Flexible work arrangement suitable for students, freelancers, researchers, and early-career professionals

Fellowship Duration

The fellowship will run for five months in 2026–2027, with fellows working remotely throughout the program period.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowship is open to applicants worldwide who demonstrate a strong interest in journalism, storytelling, and social change. Ideal candidates may include:

  • Emerging journalists
  • Writers and bloggers
  • Researchers and academics
  • Activists with storytelling experience
  • Students or recent graduates interested in media and public affairs
  • Individuals from communities and regions that are often underrepresented in international media

Previous professional journalism experience is helpful but not always required. Strong writing ability, curiosity, and a commitment to ethical storytelling are especially important.

What Fellows Will Do

Selected fellows are expected to:

  • Pitch and develop original story ideas
  • Conduct interviews and research
  • Write articles, essays, or reported features
  • Participate in editorial meetings and mentorship sessions
  • Meet agreed publication deadlines during the fellowship period
